Cap snaps out of his trance at the last second and moves the gun away from the general. Shortly thereafter, Cap and Bucky take out the Nazis goons that surrounded them. While they explain the whole scenario to the Allied commander, the Kull turns his attention to another plot: the theft of Project Vanish, a secret Allied program hidden inside British shores.
One of the Skull's sleeper agents escapes from a security compound while under the guard of Steve and Bucky. While searching for him, they stumble upon the Project Vanish secret lab, which the sleeper agent has taken over with gas bombs. The agent approaches them with the newly invented Vanishing Gun. He aims and fires at Steve, and the ray hits his rifle and makes it disappear.
Steve and Bucky retreat, and while Steve changes to Cap in the woods, he instructs Bucky to head to the base to get help, then sets his sights on the agent who is firing wildly at army tanks, making them disappear. Cap goads the agent into setting the ray gun to maximum intensity, and the gun, which hadn't yet been perfected, explodes in his hands, ending the threat.
