Synopsis: The Shocker bursts into the home of Captain George Stacy, knocks him to the ground and steals the stone tablet. He takes it to a pawn shop but the owner refuses to fence it, saying it's too hot a property and he fears retribution from Spider-Man. The Shocker goes on an angry rampage, which draws the attention of Spider-Man, who is worried that his fight will take too long and cause him to miss seeing his Aunt May off to Florida at the train station. The fight between the Shocker and Spidey is a draw, but Spidey manages to plant a spidey tracer on his back before he escapes and then races off to make it on time to see Aunt May.

The new issue of the Daily Bugle has positive coverage of Spider-Man's fight with the Shocker, which impresses Spidey when he sees the headlines. He also sees an article about Dr. Curt Connors, which inspires him to want to inquire into a summer research job with the biologist. When Jameson sees the positive press that Joe Robertson is giving his arch enemy, he once again flips out.

Flash Thompson is home on furlough and bumps into Peter and Gwen. He teases Peter in front of Gwen, which causes Peter to get very angry with Flash. Gwen says to Peter that Flash was just joking, and he shouldn't take things so seriously - then offers a cutting remark comparing Flash's courage as a soldier to Peter's constant disappearing acts whenever there is trouble.

Spider-Man is infuriated by the way fate has painted him into a corner and goes off in search of the Shocker. He finds him knocking over an armored car. A battle ensues and Spidey takes down the Shocker with a wicked haymaker and quickly strips off the wrist bands that give the Shocker his power. The armored car guard opens fire on Spidey, however, and the hero escapes wondering why the deck of mistrust is so stacked against him.
