Synopsis: (Continued from SS #16)

While time has stopped, Mephisto reminds the Silver Surfer of his vow and renews his threat to kill Shalla Bal. The Surfer tries to find his lover, but senses that she is hidden by a spell...so there is only one thing to do: destroy SHIELD.

Meanwhile, Nick sends his SHIELD agents to battle stations when the FF tells him that it's the Surfer on the loose. The demoniac Mephisto continues to lay out his plan by replacing a female SHIELD agent with Shalla Bal, so that she can be on the premises when the Surfer shows up to destroy.

SHIELD scrambles a fleet of jets, but the Surfer eludes them, then stalks them back to their base. There, he decides to follow the letter of Mephisto's demand: he will destroy the SHIELD base, but not take any human life, thus fulfilling his pledge. Fury monitors the action, realizing he's only attacking empty buildings. Fury deploys the high-tech Z-Guns, provided to him by Tony Stark, to use against the marauding Surfer, the fumes of which knock him out.

Watching from afar, Mephisto is furious that the Surfer has lost and taunts him with visions of Shalla Bal while he is imprisoned inside SHIELD's seemingly impenetrable Grani-Cell. The Surfer crashes through the prison walls and fights back against Mephisto, who immediately makes Shalla Bal disappear. He, too, disappears, leaving the Surfer to face a double dose of SHIELD's Z-Gun. Groggy from being hit by the guns again, he floats up in the sky and passes out, eventually drifting into the Inhuman's Great Refuge.
