Synopsis: Weapon Alpha (now called Vindicator) and Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau watch film footage of the X-Men fighting the Mandroids (see X-Men # 118.) It galls the prime minister that Wolverine walked out on his program, knowing they had invested so much time and money into developing and training him. He demands that Vindicator get him back at all costs. Still smarting from his failure (see X-Men #109,) Vindicator calls in Alpha Flight: Northstar, Shaman, Snowbird, Sasquatch, and Aurora all leave their civilian identities to answer the call.

As the X-men leave Japan, they make their goodbyes to Sunfire and Mr. Osama. Sunfire thanks them for their help and Wolverine leaves Mariko with a white chrysanthemum, and the revelation of his real name: Logan. He also says to her "Be seeing you." They board a private jet belonging to Colleen Wing's employer Jeryn Hogarth and the flight is uneventful until they cross the Pacific. The pilots of the plane, Annie and Jill, fly the plane through ever worsening weather, as their attempts to land in Alaska, Seattle and Vancouver are stymied. Jill goes back to the cabin, where Scott Summers and Colleen Wing seem to be enjoying each other's company, and fills him in on the deteriorating weather. A strange storm surrounds the plane, one that resists Storm’s efforts to control it. The flight leads them to what seems to be their only possible destination, which is Calgary.

When they land, they find Vindicator ready to take Logan into custody. Seeing this, Cyclops commands the pilots to try to take off but a large pair of hairy arms tosses the plane onto the tarmac and destroys it. Vindicator scans through the damage, berating the beast that threw the plane for his sloppy work, but he cannot locate his target. What Vindicator and his teammates couldn't see was Storm creating a storm pattern to all the X-Men to sneak away from the Canadian super team. They slip into the crowd inside the airport terminal, dressed in civilian clothes.

They split up but Nightcrawler doesn’t get very far, as he is blindsided by Northstar and Aurora. Banshee and Colleen take Storm into a mall to buy her a less noticeable outfit. Vindicator, having tracked the mutants to the mall, breaks in at full steam and terrifies the shoppers. Banshee reflexively tries his sonic scream to fight off Vindicator, but he’s still injured and collapses in agony after the attempt. Storm fights Vindicator off, and in her anger at the man who has now attacked them twice without cause, destroys the dress shop in. Vindicator flees. Scott watches Vindicator’s flight path and realizes that Vindicator can track mutants. Splitting up has only made them more vulnerable. Meanwhile, as Logan wanders through Calgary he is taken by surprise by Saquatch. The team regroups without Nightcrawler or Wolverine, and Cyclops realizes that it's time for the mutants to take the offensive.
