BLADE #2: "Bargains in Time"
22 pages + cover • December 2006

Blade is summoned to Latveria and is informed by Doom that, in the past, he rescued his mother in a fight with vampires while Doom was still in her womb. Doom informs Blade that he is going to be sent back in time to fulfill his role in her rescue. Angry at being manipulated by Doom, he sets out to find his mother in order to murder her. Along the way, he releases a political prisoner named Lucas Cross from his jail cell. He eventually finds Doom's mother, who is holding her own against the vampires, but soon it's determined that if the pair do not work together, they will both die; Blade reluctantly helps her escape. Back in modern Latveria, Doom hands Blade a serum that will cure him both of his need for blood and his bloodlust for hunting vampires. He doesn't take it....but he doesn't destroy it, either.

Blade meets a girl from the internet for a blind date, but it turns out she's a vampire trolling for fresh blood and he slays her in the back alley of the restaurant. Later, the NYPD arrests him for her murder and interrogate him. Blade gets legal counsel who turns up security tapes that, naturally, don't depict either Blade or the vampire he killed, but the police still keep him on suspicion of multiple robberies and disappearances to which they've linked him. During a transfer to prison, he is able to escape from the prison bus.

Flashback: Young Eric accidentally kills a human after mistaking him for a vampire, short-circuiting his education in vampire hunting and forcing him to head to America for a life on the run.

Blade agrees, and stakes out Wolverine at his Brooklyn apartment. In the course of the throwdown with Wolverine, Blade realizes that he is in debt to opponent, as years previously, Wolverine had saved his life when he was attacked by a vampire. BLADE #6: "Two Chambers"

Blade has been kidnapped by Lucas Cross and thrown in a prison cell. Lucas introduces himself as Blade's father and shares the history of Blade's mother. Rather than kill the girl, Blade knaws his hand off and frees himself from his chains, and when Lucas later returns, he pushes his way past Cross and escapes with the girl. Once free, he decides to get to the bottom of the mystery of Lucas Cross.
